Acoustic
Guitar Meeting is held every year in the month of may in the City of Sarzana
(La Spezia, Italy) inside the Fortress Firmafede, fortified citadel in
the XV° century, in collaboration with the local town hall of the City
of Sarzana, Liguria Region, Provence of La Spezia, organisations and private
sponsors.
Created and
organised by the Cultural Association “Armadillo Club” of Sarzana, under
the artistic director of Alessio Ambrosi, president of the association,
who together with the members of the association work on the production
of the festival.
The Meeting
began in 1998 and has become one of the most important international events
dedicated to the acoustic guitar and its music, a focal point in the field
of artistic research, the building and retail of this fascinating widespread
musical instrument.
The artistic
project of the meeting looks to explore the musical world of the acoustic
guitar, through a well-articulated and complete programme that starts every
morning on each day and finishes with evening concerts presenting outstanding
international artists.
Some of
the events organised every year include:
-Training
course “The lutherie and the guitar didactics”. Days of full immersion
with a training programme that looks at the building of the instrument
and the various techniques for music performance. The courses are held
by established international teachers.
-Contest
for emerging guitarists “New Sounds of Acoustic Music”, dedicated to young
guitarists. It has become an important point of reference and launches
every year new professionals and future virtuoso of this instrument.
-Exhibition
of lutherie, import, vintage, accessories and publishing for the acoustic
guitar. A trade show with stands full of splendid string instruments, accessories,
specialist publications and books, which is open every day both to the
public and those in the field. It is today one of the most important international
trade shows, with the presence of the best luthiers, guitar makers, companies
and international brands.
-Conferences
and educational seminars complete with excellent guests from various fields
of the acoustic guitar, from journalists and qualified experts to established
teachers of the instrument and importers, luthiers, manufacturers and other
associations in the field.
-Concerts
with the best international acoustic guitarists. Solo artists and in ensemble,
dozens of artists from all over the world have been presented over the
years.

of Sarzana-Regione Liguria “STRINGS & VOICES for DIALOGUE & CIVIL
RIGHTS” Award
It wants
to celebrate artists who have written important music and songs for
civil rights and social changings by using acoustic guitar and voice.
In the first
edition, May 2009, the Award has been attributed to the memory of WOODY
GUTHRIE, father of the new folk song. His daughter, Nora Guthrie, has collected
the Award, a beautiful sculpture of the artist Luigi Mainolfi.

to thank you so much for the incredible week I spent in Sarzana, I had
a wonderful time. There was so much to experience that it will take me
months to absorb it all. Whether i come as a visitor or I am ever involved
again with your festival, I will return. Not only was it the finest festival
I've ever attended, I was also amazed by the level of talented players
you have in Italy. Four out of five players who sampled the exhibit guitars
could play at a professional level. This is not my experience in the US....maybe
one out of five players could play at that level. So I thank you again...I
had the time of my life.

of all, thank you very much for having us at the Festival and treating
us so well. We really enjoyed meeting many new people, both musicians and

is a wonderful combination of creative new talent, opportunities for learning,

pullulare di attività che si sono susseguite incessantemente durante
i cinque giorni della manifestazione, e che costituiscono in gran parte
la rassicurante continuità del Meeting, alla quale ci siamo via
via legati e affezionati, non si può quest'anno non mettere in particolare
evidenza quattro eventi cardine : il lungo set acustico di uno dei più
grandi chitarristi della storia del rock, STEVE HOWE; il ritorno di BOB
BROZMAN nella nuova veste di esploratore delle musiche del mondo e di promotore
di collaborazioni con i protagonisti di queste musiche, nella fattispecie
con il RENE' LACAILLE ENSAMBLE originario dell' Isola della Riunione; la
prima edizione del Corso di formazione "La liuteria e la chitarra", condotto
da PAOLO CORIANI e JOHN MONTELEONE per la liuteria, e da DAVIDE MASTRANGELO,
WOODY MAN, e BOB BROZMAN per la didattica chitarristica; infine CLIVE CARROL.
E' di
questo tipo di musica che si sente un gran bisogno. E' questo tipo di musica
che torneremo ad ascoltare e a vivere l'anno prossimo a Sarzana, per il
decennale del Meeting...

...E'
una mia fissa, ormai, da epicureo ingrassato, che il trittico musica, natura
e gastronomia rappresenti quanto di meglio ci sia per far pieno lo spirito,
e non solo, godendo in raffinata estasi.
Metti
un grappolo di note alla Woody Mann, un mare blu increspatello giù
per le Cinque Terre, qualche scampo avvoltolato al Lardo di Colonnata,
l'accoglienza della fortezza medioevale Firmafede, un sacco di amici...
Cos'altro può stare alla pari? Venite gente! Arrivate pure in sacco
a pelo, con la vecchia Volkswagen di papà, col mulo, ma venite al
Festival Internazionale di Chitarra Acustica di Sarzana. E' vacanza, tranquillità
intelligente. Tanto di casino ne facciamo tutto l'anno e di tranquillità
un pò cretina siamo tutti dei campioncini. Qui, o meglio là,
si mangia bene e la musica nei giorni del meeting ti riempe tutti gli anfratti.
Puoi seguire uno stage di liuteria o un corso didattico con un artista
di livello internazionale, puoi toccare chitarre, ascoltare concerti sotto
il cielo, comperare vinili e CD usati, vedere gente appassionata che ha
tutte le scale possibili del DNA. Insomma, è un viaggio in paradiso
che ci si può pagare. Il direttore di questa grande "orchestra"
è Mr Ambrosi dell'Armadillo Club di Sarzana. Ce ne fosse di
gente così che fa il suo lavoro con passione, con dedizione.
Fermo i tamburi e vi racconto di questi cinque giorni, dal 17 al 21, stracolmi
di avvenimenti...

Più
che una kermesse dedicata alle chitarre acustiche e alle loro ormai infinite
morfologie, L'ACOUSTIC GUITAR INTERNATIONAL MEETING di Sarzana è
una vera e propria festa di popolo. Per cinque giorni la città ligure
diventa il punto di incontro per migliaia di appassionati che provengono
da ogni parte d'Italia per ascoltare musica, visitare gli stand degli espositori,
partecipare a qualche seminario, incontrare amici o semplicemente farsi
un giro.
Quest'anno
, dal 17 al 21 Maggio, è la nona edizione e, a giudicare dai numeri
della rassegna, il Meeting non conosce crisi, anzi...

anno sempre di più, l'appuntamento con il Festival di Sarzana diventa
irrinunciabile per gli appassionati di chitarra acustica di tutta Italia,
e non solo. Si torna a casa convinti di aver assistito alla migliore edizione
possibile, e quella successiva, puntualmente, si viene smentiti. Merito
dell'incredibile apparato organizzativo che l'Armadillo Club riesce a mettere
a punto...

paese è la bellezza dei luoghi che le ospitano. A Sarzana, a pochi

e domenica 21 Maggio uno dei più importanti Festival dedicati alla
